«thealgoguide» is an interactive project that explores the social and ethical
implications of algorithmic bias.
The starting point is a proposal that was discussed in the EU Parliament in 2017: the
introduction of a so-called “e-persona” status for autonomous algorithms in advanced
robotics. The aim of this proposal was to close legal liability gaps arising from
increasing automation and the use of autonomous algorithms.
At the center of our project is a specially prompted chatbot that invites you to a
conversation. The questions it asks revolve around the experience of being human in
a complex social environment. The session stages a hypothetical encounter - a
conversation between a human and an algorithm that is understood as a social actor.
We pay particular attention to the answers and perspectives of people who feel they
belong to a marginalized group, as forms of discrimination in our society are
reproduced in smart technology.
becomes.
With your participation and your answers, you will contribute to a growing archive that
documents different perspectives on social realities. The collected contributions will
flow into an artistic evaluation (in the form of an anthology of the conversations) and
serve as a contribution to a broader public debate on the impact of artificial
intelligence on our lives. Please write to us at the email address below if you would
like to receive a copy after completion.
You will end the session, i.e. if you no longer wish to respond, you can close the
window with the conversation.
Do you identify as part of a marginalized group?
If you answered "yes" to the previous question, you can indicate which minority group you feel you belong to.
Please also indicate the country in which you currently live.

Your responses will be securely stored and used solely within the context of this
project for artistic representation and public discussion.
By participating, you agree that your anonymized responses may be used in these
contexts.
